Sigi Skin’s founder on hottest products, getting discounts, spotting fakes in Seoul
Sigi Skin may fly the +65 flag high, but all its products are actually formulated and manufactured in Seoul, South Korea, according to its founder.
In light of this, the 28-year-old has become a K-beauty pro in her own right. “Korea is a hub for all things beauty. All the latest trends and innovations come from Korea, which means their technology is also the latest. “As a Singaporean brand, we also need products that work for Asian skin,” said Wong.
“I was in Seoul in February to finalize the launch of our next big thing, the Daylight Oasis Vitamin C serum, which is set to hit the shelves in April,” she revealed.
It took nearly three years to perfect our most intricate formula yet; that of high concentrations of L-Ascorbic acid (otherwise referred to as Vitamin C). To ensure its effectiveness, we had the glass bottle custom-made. During her trips to Seoul, Wong has had the opportunity to mingle with renowned makeup artist Pony (who is an avid fan of Sigi Skin’s Youth Beam and Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen) and collaborate with local beauty formulators – who shared a well-guarded beauty secret with her: double cleansing doesn’t always have to begin with cleansing oil.
“This narrative is being used to sell more products. A Korean consumer survey found that most Koreans prefer cleansing foam over cleansing oil,” said Wong.
“Double cleansing means cleansing your face twice. A light cleanser like Sigi Skin’s Kaleanser will suffice. It is safe around your eyes, and is especially useful if you have eyelash extensions.”
Despite her busy schedule, the self-confessed beauty junkie never leaves Seoul without indulging in some K-beauty shopping and other indulgences she considers “research”.
