Pearline Cher was finally cured of her endometriosis after consulting eight doctors, undergoing more than 30 medical tests, and spending S$140,000 on treatment. To normalize the conversation surrounding the chronic gynecological condition, she hopes to raise awareness.
She had no idea what to do when Pearline Cher, while at work, suddenly experienced unusually heavy menstrual flow and severe cramps in her lower body.
Her 38-year-old accountant silently gritted her teeth during the workday. After work, she consulted a general practitioner (GP), who diagnosed it as regular menstrual cramps.
In subsequent menstrual cycles, Cher continued to experience abnormally heavy flow for five to six days, changing 10 sanitary pads per day.
Her pads quickly overflowed halfway through work meetings and she had to switch to ultra-long 45cm pads.
Her pain was so severe that she couldn’t sit or lie down properly and spent her night crunched up in her bed, crying in pain.
A chain of GPs told Cher she was just suffering from menstrual cramps and prescribed painkillers and muscle relaxants.
Cher saw a gynecologist in June 2020 after experiencing excruciating pain for a year. The woman was diagnosed with endometriosis, a chronic condition in which cells similar to those lining the uterus grow outside the uterus, causing pain during menstruation, pelvic pain, and infertility difficulties.
